The first class of Prosecco had gone down nicely and Jane
started to feel a lot more settled.
After some opening announcements the starter of asparagus and smoked
salmon had been swiftly served. It was
a shame that she and Andy were seated so far back and close to the kitchen door
but at least they had a place. Jane had
noted with satisfaction the number of admiring glances being made at her young
companion by other ladies and their escorts from nearby tables; she was also
pleased by how some of the escorts’ eyes lingered on her too.
“Auntie?” Andy was
seated to her left and had leant slightly to speak, “What did you show that
young girl on the entrance?”
“Nothing dear. Eat
your asparagus.”
“But Auntie, you showed her something.”
“Yes, dear.”
“What was it? What
was on your wrist?” Andy was whispering
but it was hardly necessary unless their neighbours at the table could lip
read.
“It’s a secret.”
“It can’t be much of a secret. Can I see?”
“If it’ll keep you quiet, yes.” Jane turned slightly and proffered her right
wrist towards Andy. “Slide up the
bangle.” Andy gently moved the wide
silvery bracelet.
“Oh Auntie! I never
knew.”
“There. Will that
satisfy you?” Jane pulled her wrist
away. She could see their table
companions looking at them but there was little that they were going to do or
say.
“Did it hurt?”
“Yes, a little.”
“Why did you have it done?”
“Because I joined the Sisterhood.”
“What did the girl mean about ‘only one?’”
“Because I only have one.”
“Why only one?”
“On what?”
“On you, for a start.
Now can we have less of your questions, please?”
“But Auntie ….”
Andy’s response was drowned by a thump from the speakers round the
auditorium and an announcement.
A lady clad in a shimmering black latex mermaid dress stood
centre stage holding a microphone: I hope you’ve enjoyed your
starters.” There were murmurs of
approval from the crowd. “While I
don’t want to interrupt your conversations, may I suggest that you take a few
moments to think about how you may want to bid this evening. You may want to discuss your plans with
friends at your table. How are you
going to allocate your spend? Remember,
it’s cash or debit card only. The first
part of our auction will begin shortly after everyone has finished their main
course. We all know what the ‘L’ in
‘GALA’ stands for, don’t we?” There
were a few calls from the audience and applause. “Thank you.
I’ll be back with some goodies in about twenty minutes.” More applause.
“Ladies, fellow Mistresses and Subs, hello
again.
“What does she mean about what the ‘L’ stands for? I didn’t know GALA was an acronym,” pondered
Andy
“It isn’t normally.
But since it’s a charity fund raiser I guess the last ‘A’ must be for
‘Auction’.”
“So would that make the ‘L’ for ‘Latex’?”
end of Part 13
Uh-oh, is Lady Jane a bidder or a biddee? Will she and her ward be taken and prepared for the auction? Soon, very soon.
